Filling & Dressing
Bottle & Can Filling and Dressing
Filling and Dressing are two distinctly different steps in the bottling and canning process.
Filling, though seemingly straight forward, can be complex, with different product and container types requiring different types of fillers and different filling methods. Some products, such as still liquids, can be bottled using numerous methods, including gravity filling, vacuum filling, or volumetric filling. Other products, like carbonated beverages or oil, are more specialized and limited to only one or two suitable methods of filling. Semi-automatic machines are typically limited to only one filling method, whereas automated lines may employ multiple filling methods at the same time to increase efficiency and/or effectiveness.
Dressing is a catchall term referring to anything done or added to the container, usually after it has been filled and closed. This includes labeling, capsuling (either heat shrink or foil), waxing, date stamping, etc..
